When you love a dog, trust the hole in your heart will heal after they leave

When we love dogs, we love them all the way. The experience is all-encompassing as you enjoy the highest highs, the lowest lows, and everything in between, during your time together, however long. This much I've learned to be true.

For about two years now, I've been dealing with anticipatory grief but recently it has been particularly bad. My dog appears to be reaching a point when it will be time for us to let her go.

#ThrowbackThursday Cleo inspection station

Our dog must inspect every bag and package that enters the front door. She pushes her way past your body, your legs, and hands to stick her snout into a bag or around every side of a box.

Her nose and sense of smell is a 3-D printer for her brain. No wonder her blindess today doesn't bother her that much, as long as we don't move the furniture.

If only we could train her to woof "I love you"

What's so great having a Husky Shepherd dog? When she gets in touch with her Siberian Husky genes, images from Call of the Wild come to mind. She curls into her tail for a nap, dreaming of Arctic winds or marches us down the street as if pulling a sled. Years ago our neighbors told us they heard her lonely woo woo when she was alone for a few hours. Her genetic code includes vocalization but since we rarely leave her alone anymore, she has no reason to howl.

In 2009 Cleo steps through the digital curtain and into dog lover's hearts

Celebrating Eight Years with Cleo. As part of today's online celebration of our eight years with our dog, we're sharing blog posts, photos, videos and more from the past.

Four years ago in 2009, Cleo walked through these kitchen curtains and into the hearts of digital fans, in addition to many wonderful strangers she met in the San Francisco Presidio.

With that happy face, she is a natural conversation starter and quickly made friends around town and online. Dr. Harvey's was one of our first product reviews, and Cleo fell in love with his Veg to Bowl.

She soon met @Rumblepurr a very handsome mancat and her long lost brother!

What face does your dog make? This is the look of love...

No Halloween mask can hide the love our dog is feeling right now for her papa. How can people deny themselves this amount of unadultered affection? Why wouldn't you take a chance to experience true love that is profound, and with few filters and less restrictive criteria than Match.com or ChristianMingle.com?

Beach Baby Beach Baby Give Me Your Paw..

Summer is around the corner and this video brings back memories of our dog Cleo when she romped on the beach. Today her romps are bouncing off the two of us for a few minutes, while we fluff her fur, jiggle her butt and lightly thump her sides.

I've found the perfect tune from my childhood to go with this beach video. Anyone else remember this seventies song ??

Here are some of the lyrics...

Beach baby, Beach Baby give me your hand
Give me somethin' that I can remember
Just like before we can walk by the shore in the moonlight
Beach baby, Beach baby there on the sand
From July 'till the end of September
Surfin' was fun, we'd be out in the sun every day

Puppy Eyes Reflect Love

This is how I'll always see my dog Cleo, reflecting the love she sees coming from my eyes. By now she'd been with us four years and she had fully embraced my devotion and commitement to her. This photo is from 2009 during a moment when we had just returned to pick her up from a visit with Team Cleo.

She is telling us that she had a good time but that she was ready to go home. We happily complied.
