Discover why senior dogs rule when you meet Violet!!

Did you know that wild violets symbolize devotion, purity, and spiritual passion? In the Victorian era, violets were carried in order to manifest wishes and keep malevolent spirits away.

This describes senior sweetheart Violet, a dog in Oakland ready to show you why senior dogs rule. Her positive influence is sure to make your life brighter.

Violet needs a home.

Miss Violet is a volunteer favorite due to her loving Zen personality. Violet is a daily reminder to stop, relax, enjoy the sunshine, and smell the roses (and violets).

She is a calm and soothing balm to this frantic and fragmented world we now live in. That is what is so special about senior dogs. They are at peace with themselves and the world, accepting of all different types of people and dogs, and they are great listeners. Violet will be a devoted companion who demands very little. She is not in need of long walks, lots of physical activity, or puppy training.

Violet is a special needs dog due to her chronic eye condition (Dry Eye-Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca). She will need help from her new family and vet to manage this condition so that she can feel her best.

Are you that special person for our special Violet? Can you open your home and heart to a senior dog and fill her retirement years with love and comfort? If so, please come by Oakland Animal Services today to meet our little wonder–Miss Violet.

There is nothing like the smile of an older dog!

OAS volunteer Rachel says:

Violet is a golden girl with golden spots! She's a very good girl when getting her eye medications. I've seen her sit quite patiently and hold still with staff while they put the medicine on her eye. I think it makes her eye feel better, so if she trusts you, she's fine. She's a solid girl and enjoys a leisurely walk. She has a slight limp, but it doesn't seem to slow her down. She likes pets and scratches, but also likes to have some space. I think this mellow cutie will make a great companion for a lucky human.

She's actually much better at getting her eye medicine than my cat ever was (I've done drops with my cat & gel).
