Our condolences to the family of Timmy, the sweet Labrador-basset-springer mix who as a therapy dog helped heal thousands at the World Trade Center, after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
"Sometimes the only time they smiled was when they saw Timmy," Mr. Young said.
Timmy frequently met with sick children through Geisinger Medical Center's Tender Paws program. Mr. Young estimated that the dog saw more than 7,000 patients and their families over the years. The Youngs and Timmy were first stationed at the Family Assistance Center following the Sept. 11 attacks.
Timmy was later given New York City Police Department credentials and was the only therapy dog to provide comfort to those working at Ground Zero.
