Rescue Ink: A Moment of Pause and My Virtual Tattoo at BlogPaws

Reading that guys from Rescue Ink would be the opening keynote for BlogPaws this year, I was intrigued because I didn't know anything about them. The hour they spoke proved to me that they are very smart, and dedicated good guys, period. Joe Panzarella and Anthony Rossano spoke passionately and made a great tag team for the event. The crowd laughed, clapped and tweeted their priceless sound bites.

Two sides of the same coin was my first thought as I listened to them. As they spoke, what came to my mind was their similarity to Mike Arms, the president of the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Both are passionate about animals and very serious about their work. They are not in the rescue business as a lark or to make themselves feel good. Neither suffer fools gladly and ten minutes in to their keynote - I'm hooked.

Did Cleo email them? P.L.A.Y. Launches New Line of Designer Lounge Beds

Cleo_Inner_Tube_Bed Our senior dog Cleo naps a lot. She roams the house and often will shift from her bed to the floor, and then back again. We are in a multi-level house, and she uses every bed she has.

One of her beds is one that we refer to as her "inner tube" bed. It has an egg carton foam bottom, with four surrounding bolsters that she can either rest her chin against, drape herself over or use as mini-walls to bury her face below.

She loves this bed and can somehow make it look too big or too small for her size. We were dreading the day it is worn out, until now. Our friends at P.L.A.Y. (Pet Lifestyle And You) are proud to announce the September 21st launch of their new Lounge Beds, the latest addition to their award-winning collections.

My First Old Dog, Guest Posts and Why Seniors Rule

Today I had a first circle moment. Last year I began looking for people interested in writing a guest post here. My only criteria was that whatever the topic, the post needed to include a positive message, to end with hope or action. Grouchy Puppy has the motto "Give Fearlessly and Influence Positively" because we focus on empowering people, whether through education or inspiration.

It does no one any good, and especially a dog, if you are a puddle of sadness. After reading a depressing story or article, I need to do something, to act. I'm sure this is why petitions are so popular. People need to feel they can make a difference, they want to give fearlessly, whether through putting their name down for or against an issue or choosing to volunteer their time.

Getting Educated at BlogPaws 2011 - Start at the top

Besides making new friends, reuniting with old friends and generally becoming inspired, one of the reasons I attended BlogPaws this year was education. My passion for dogs and my love of my dog Cleo, motivates me to learn ways to make a difference in their lives. I want to do more than just pet my dog or donate some money each year to various animal nonprofits or campaigns.

When Mike Arms, the president of the Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) spoke as the keynote at the pet blogging conference BlogPaws in Denver last year, I was so grateful to hear someone speak directly about the "business of saving lives". He understands that to effectively make a difference in the lives of animals, you need more than good intentions and more than love for animals.

BlogPaws sponsor, P&G Pet Care, offered us conference attendees a special abbreviated Animal Center Education Services (ACES) workshop as a pre-conference event. Since I wanted to attend the popular three-day ACES workshop (now 4-days!) at the HWAC San Diego location, this mini-ACES was a great opportunity for me, and I'm so glad I signed up.

Muttville Volunteer Raising Money, Awareness is Running in Portland Marathon

These are the best kind of stories. Stacey Scott, a wonderful Muttville volunteer, is running the Portland Marathon on October 9 in support of Muttville, a San Francisco senior dog rescue.

Stacey is attempting to raise $2600 for Muttville before it starts. She already half way there but let's help her get to the finish line! Sadie, her 10 year old Border Collie will be cheering along too!

Surviving Hurricane Irene, Navigating BlogPaws 2011 and My Biggest Secret Ever

How I survived Hurricane Irene, navigated BlogPaws 2011 as a threepeat attendee while keeping the biggest secret of my life.

When PEDIGREE sponsored my first attendance at BlogPaws in Ohio, I was over the moon. The pet blogging conference had great keynote speakers, lots of fellow animal lovers and I couldn't get enough of the informative sessions. Fast forward to last week, and this time forget the moon you could have launched me into orbit around the sun!

Surviving Hurricane Irene

First of all, I live in San Francisco. I have lived through and slept through more earthquakes, tremors and after shocks than I can remember. Our hotel location for the conference was Vienna, VA. Honestly most of my time was spent in windowless rooms so I didn't even notice the weather. Being from California, and choosing wisely, I was fortunate to have a husband who didn't text me repeatedly with his worries about what was being reported by the Weather Channel. Many who stayed used the wacky weather reporting as a model to create dramatic Hurricane Irene videos.
