Raise Awareness of Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) Help AAHA Helping Pets Fund
Is your dog's nickname Stinker? Do you fan your face when you get a smooch from Fido?
February is National Pet Dental Health month and the perfect time to learn more about good dental health for your pet, because that can mean a longer life for your buddy. Though some do, most pet owners do not brush their dogs teeth. 77% last year chose to buy dental treats for their pet to fight plaque and tartar buildup rather than brush.
If your dog is going to get a dental chew, wouldn't it be great to know if it has been tested to actually work? Today there is a group that has created testing protocols and a Seal of Acceptance for pet products that meet established standards for helping reduce tartar build up and plaque. This group is called the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) and is administered by leading veterinary dentists at the American Veterinary Dental College. The VOHC is similar in nature to the American Dental Association (ADA) but is applied to pet products.
Here's the dish:
We've written before about the American Animal Hospital Association Foundation and its AAHA Helping Pets Fund that helps those who need access to veterinary care but have a financial hardship. Read our interview of Tamara Fox, the amazing administrator for AAHA Helping Pets Fund.
Throughout February The GREENIES® Brand is partnering with the AAHA to support the AAHA Helping Pets Fund.
For every blog post written about VOHC, The GREENIES® Brand will donate $25 to the AAHA Helping Pets Fund
For every use of #VOHC on Twitter (either through an original post or a re-tweet), The GREENIES® Brand will donate $1 to the AAHA Helping Pets Fund
GREENIES® Canine Dental Chews is one of the many products that have received a VOHC seal -- see a list of more products that have been awarded the VOHC seal here.
If you want to write your own blog post feel free to copy any of this content here. You can help spread the word about pet dental health while supporting the AAHA Helping Pets Fund.

Love Actually as told by a Siberian Husky
Sit! Speak! Rollover! We sure do demand a lot from our dogs. My philosophy as a pet owner has been to find the right balance between well behaved and well loved.
Sometimes my childhood of going to dog shows with our Dobermans and helping my mom enforce all of the training necessary for them to win, helps me with my big rescue dog Cleo, and sometimes it gets in the way.
I believe that since we adopted her as an adult, Cleo deserves some extra love and a few more loose rules than if we had gotten her as a puppy. I feel compelled to compensate for the love and affection she missed out on before us. My mother would likely disagree.
However thankfully because of my childhood and the repetitive nature of the dog training I was involved in, Cleo is not a monster knocking people over or begging from the table. She can sit and stay pretty well, though her tiny feet with her large body has her slipping out of her sit frequently.
She knows the word "wait" very well and the words "all done". I'm grateful that I discovered the love and joy of rescues and mixed dogs. The AKC won't come calling anytime soon, but knowing that the mixed gene pool of a rescue increases the likelihood of a long life makes me very happy.
Now if only Cleo would become as vocal as this sweet Husky...what a valentine

Influence Positively Interview - Laura Posey
Laura Posey is Chief Instigator at Dancing Elephants Achievement Group. She is an internationally sought after speaker and consultant for organizations seeking to get focused, get energized and get results.
Laura is also Executive Director and Founder of SaveThisPup.com, a non-profit dedicated to eliminating euthanasia of homeless animals.
What is your idea of perfect happiness? Sitting on the couch in front of a roaring fire, snow outside, my sleeping pups snuggled up against me and while I read a great book.
If you could come back as a dog or a cat, which one would it be & why? I love dogs, but I think cats have it easier. There are no expectations of them other than the occasional entertaining interlude. I think I could manage that.
What is your pets most treasured possession? For George, it is his bully sticks. He loves them! For Gracie, definitely her blanket. She is never happier than when she is cuddled up underneath it.
Your proudest achievement so far? Building a strong business that does good in the world by helping people live their dreams. As soon as SaveThisPup.com gets off the ground, that will be my legacy.
Who are your heroes in real life? I love Eleanor Roosevelt. She was such a strong woman and a voice for change at a time when only pretty women got an audience.
