What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Perfect happiness is a world in which all pets have a home. It's been one of my biggest frustrations working in the pet industry, as we currently have between 9,000 - 11,000 animals euthanized each day in shelters here in the United States. To me, that is just completely unacceptable. Until that day comes when we have a solution to this problem, I'll keep coming up with new ideas to help correct it.

If you could come back as a dog or a cat, which one would it be & why?
I would probably come back as a cat. They are the kings of the castle. Everything is on their time frame and people serve them!

What is your pets most treasured possession?
I adopted a dog named Soco in college who loved tennis balls, I would always be asking people for extras. He went through them pretty quickly. Anytime a tennis ball came out, Soco knew it was play time. Given that his favorite activity was running (while we were biking, rollerblading, or jogging), tennis balls quickly became his best friend when we ran out of energy and he was still ready to go.

Your proudest achievement so far?
My proudest achievement was actually having our first online pet adoption with live video at Kent Animal Shelter with my invention, Animal Roulette. We had 200 live chats that afternoon with animal lovers all over the country. People could see and talk to the animals that were up for adoption at Kent Animal Shelter right from their home, which I believe is the future of pet adoption in the United States. Now we can eliminate all the excuses like long drives to the shelter or bad weather, and show anyone with a computer the lovable animals that are waiting for them. The live video interaction gives the people the ability to ask questions about the animal in real time, and the shelter can also qualify the person adopting to make sure they are a good fit for this animal. It saves lots of time for both parties, and it helps to save animals. Watching the new website go up, have successful online video chats with people all over the United States, and then end up with new adoptions at the end of the day is very satisfying. It just shows that anything is possible if you really believe in it.

Who are your heroes in real life?
My heroes in real life are my parents, mostly because they originally came from another country, built wonderful careers, raised three children, and really succeeded in life. They chased down their dreams and made it a reality, which gives me a great deal of inspiration as I try to do the same. The values that they taught me at a very early age still stick with me today, and for that I am very thankful.
