Dog Changes World

Influence Positively Questionnaire - Neil Brogan

with dogs Neil Brogan is the creator of Life With Dogs and the crazed cartoonist behind the antics of Nigel Buggers, a notorious trouble making Greyhound. A dog lover from birth, he has sacrificed part of a lip and a third of a pinkie finger to dog bites, and continues to strive for animal equality by putting the word out as urgent animal rights issues arise.

He resides in Vermont with his patient wife, three dogs, and long suffering cat, Cracker. When he's not blogging, you can find him lazing in a local river with his pack, or pulling his hair out at his day job as the VP of a bustling technology company.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

A sunny summer day spent frolicking in the river with the dogs. It's an easy way to forget the rest of the world and just be. We are lucky to have water on our property, because the Labs would never forgive me if they had to go without!

If you could come back as a dog or a cat, which one would it be & why?

This is a no brainer. A dog. I'd like to have a personality. ;)

What is your pets most treasured possession?

The giant, overstuffed chair by the front window. It is coveted by all, but claimed by Nigel. I haven't been able to get a spot on it for two years now.

Your proudest achievement so far?

This is a very difficult question. I really have a list of three or four, but to stay on topic, I'll say having a strong influence on our state's decision to ban the roadside sale of dogs a few years ago. Puppy mill breeders from surrounding states would flock to VT during peak tourist season to peddle their wares. Now they are unwelcome. That makes me smile every time I think about it.

Who are your heroes in real life?

I'm a bit of a skeptic - and actually wrote a piece last year about heroes and the fact that many are manufactured for mass media consumption. But I did meet a remarkable woman this year, and her name will deserve a mention whenever a discussion of animals and heroes comes up. I'll finish a piece on her next week, but for now remember this name: Janice Wolf from Rocky Ridge Rescue.
