Linda and Glynn Sumrall, pet owners and proprietors of A Pet's Memory Pet Funeral Home in Gulfport, started a Pet Oxygen Recovery Mask Program in 2008 after realizing a need for the lifesaving devices through media coverage of a house fire in which a family pet died from smoke inhalation.
After doing research, the Sumralls learned fire stations are not able to use their own money for pet oxygen recovery masks, so the Sumralls embarked on a series of fundraisers to buy and donate pet oxygen recovery mask sets to all of the 98 Mississippi Coast fire stations and rescue K9 units.
