Influence Positively Story: John Unger viral photo saves Schoep's life

We all remember the touching photograph of John Unger cradling his aging dog, Schoep, in the waters of Lake Superior. Now Unger says that all of the Facebook shares that sent the snapshot around the world helped save Schoep's life.

Two months ago, Unger couldn't afford the vet bills and medication that the ailing dog needed. "I probably would've put him down," he admitted. But then countless strangers bought a copy of the photo or contacted him to find out how they could help, and after receiving more than $25,000 in donations, Schoep is getting the treatment he needs, and Unger has also helped start a foundation for other struggling pet owners. "It's our turn to give back," Unger said.
