PORT ST. LUCIE — Life as Brandy had known it was over. Her owner, with whom she had spent many happy years, had passed away, and now she was being returned to Dogs & Cats Forever-the shelter from which she had originally been adopted.
Although shelter staff showed Brandy to potential adopters, they knew finding her a home would be difficult. She was a senior mixed breed, and wasn’t fond of other dogs. Additionally, she had sensitive skin, and was on a grain-free diet in order to prevent her from losing her hair.
After six months, Brandy still had no prospects for a home. She was highlighted as TC Palm’s “Pet of the Week” in the hope that someone would look into her eyes and see that she still had much more to offer.
Brandy needed just one special person, but, instead, she got two.Bob and Maureen Dunlop arrived at the shelter on the day Brandy’s photo appeared, with the newspaper in their hands. They wanted to meet her.
