GULF SHORES, Alabama -- Firefighters say it’s tough to revive a smoke-stricken dog using human oxygen masks. So local veterinarians hope to supply fire departments in Baldwin County with masks designed to fit pets.
"It’s such a pain to give oxygen to a dog or cat with an essentially flat, human mask," said Danielle Bercier, a vet from Silverhill.
She met with Gulf Shores Fire Marshal George Surry to talk about pet oxygen kits, and discovered a need at most all of the county’s fire stations.
The customized kits cost $75 each and include three different-sized, reusable masks; oxygen tubing; leashes; and pet CPR information.
