Many believe that spay/neuter is the key for ending pet overpopulation. Cloris Leachman recorded a great spay/neuter ad for PETA. Over 60% of the dogs euthanized in the City of San Francisco are at least part pit bull, and in March the San Francisco SPCA began offering free spay and neuter surgeries for pit bulls and pit mixes, as part of an awareness campaign.
People everywhere are focused on ending the homeless pet population in creative ways. How would you encourage someone to spay or neuter their pet?
Launched earlier this year, the FiXiT Foundation seeks to find why populations are not spaying or neutering their companion animals. They initiated a case study in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, named “The Island Project,” to test out various incentive programs to entice pet owners to spay or neuter their pets. In March the foundation received a $100,000 grant from PetSmart Charities® to support this creative initiative.
FiXiT recently launched GetYourFix.org -- a way to connect pet owners in need with pet lovers who are seeking a "fix" for their pet. With the flailing economy and high unemployment rate, GetYourFix is a way for pet owners to find help to do the right thing for their pet.
"Get Your Fix" is a place where pet “Owners” can meet “Funders” - a partnership that will help end companion animal overpopulation. Just three easy steps to take whether you are a pet owner needing help or someone ready to sponsor a fix.

ABOUT THE FiXiT FOUNDATION
The FiXiT Foundation was established to eliminate the dependence on euthanasia in the U.S. The organization hosts “The Island Project” in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, to determine the best way to approach the lack of spaying or neutering pets in some populations. I always encourage pet owners to spay/neuter their animals. By not allowing our animals to create new lives that might end up in shelters, we are giving the ones that need homes a better chance at finding a family.

There are so many beautiful fur babies needing homes and failing that, put to death. We can become a no kill nation for our fellow creatures if we help control the over population. Love the ones who are here.

Awareness and Education and Humor are the ways I use to encourage someone to spay or neuter their pet. Many are surprised when I ask them who makes more puppies... an intact male dog or an intact female dog... the male dogs makes puppies every night when running loose... the female takes a few weeks to make her nine. That brings a laugh but makes people understand that boy dogs need fixed too! Keep encouraging people to do the right thing! SNARL! Spay! Neuter! Adopt! Rescue! Love!
Oh... and I'm a fan in more ways than Facebook!
